Aluminum nitride(AIN) was formed by two-step pyrolysis of poly (isopropyliminoalane) in Ar. The product pyrolyzed at 1000°C was an amorphous material. Solid-state 27Al-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) showed that an AIN-like structure was present in the product. Heat treatment of the pyrolyzed product at 1600°C yielded crystalline AIN from the amorphous material.
