Wireless sensor networks are generally used to measure state quantity of fixed objects. When they are adapted to mobile units, flexible and dynamic network topology should be realized. ZigBee systems are very useful to construct dynamic networks because they support multi-hop communication. On the other hand, when accidents or large fires occur, rapid and appropriate rescue operations should be taken in the scene. It is very important for such operation that rescue team members constantly communicate with each other in the site. Moreover the base station located near the site should be aware of the members' positions and situations to direct them effectively. A remote monitoring system with ZigBee devices has been developed for the rescue operations in actual disaster areas or special places outside the scope of mobile phones. The system can trace members' actions and locations by using IMU and GPS, and help every member to communicate. It can also enhance the security and work efficiency of rescue teams' performances at the scene.
