抄録

This chapter illustrates how outdoor experiences in the author's 20s helped her to question values and inspired her to encourage both young and old to free themselves from the preconceptions and "common sense" taught through Japanese culture. Through the author's personal experiences of journeys and expeditions, biases or the expectations of women are revealed. The author has skied across Siberia and the Bering Strait, parachuted to the North Pole, canoed the upper Amazon River, and crossed the Arctic Ocean with dog sleds, among others. With countless women's efforts and unspoken achievements, society's views of women are changing in Japan. Nonetheless, it is still not enough unless more girls and women recognize their potential and grasp their opportunities.
