N2 - Spatial diversity is observed for the ground motion non-stationarity of amplitudes as well as frequency contents during the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake. The non-stationarity of frequency contents must have affected non-linear behavior of structures bearing such large ground motion with their plastic deformations; however, most artificial ground motion for design cannot account for this non-stationarity. In this study, we have adapted the wavelet transform on the records and extracted the non-stationarity in different frequency bands by statistics of the wavelet coefficients. Based on these statistics, we are discussing the artificial ground motion modeling with wavelet coefficients.
