The equilibria in the Al(1)-Cl2(g) system have been studied at temperatures from 600 to 1300 K using a transpiration reactor. The equilibria considered were those among Al(s or l)-Al(g)-Cl2(g)-AlCl(g)-AlCl2(g)-AlCl3(g)-Al2Cl6( g). The standard Gibbs energies of formation for the AlCl(g) and AlCl2(g) species at these temperatures have been determined simultaneously, where these subchloride species coexist in appreciable quantities with the AlCl3(g) and Al2Cl6(g) species in the gas phase at these temperatures, as follows: AlCl(g): ΔGf·AlCl·T 0(600-900 K) = -76.6-8.05×10-2T; ΔGf·AlCl·T 0(1000-1300 K) = -91.9-6.41×10-2T AlCl2(g): ΔGf·AlCl(2)·T 0(600-900 K) = -319-3.35×10-2T; ΔGf·AlCl(2)·T 0(1000-1300 K) = -335-1.65×10-2T.
