This paper describes an estimation method for in vivo measurement of sound velocity in a massive tissue from distorted image in some reflectors of ultrasonic echogram obtained from conventional ultrasonic equipment. As an experimental model, some reference reflectors were placed posterior to a cylinder in water. The ultrasonic echogram was obtained by a linear scanning system. It was the distorted image of the real section of the model. The distorted image was simulated by a computer based on the acoustic ray theory. As a result, the distorted image was related to the relative sound velocity of a cylinder to the surroundings. Some estimations methods are proposed.
