N2 - In this paper, we describe an intraoral pressure control system for the humanoid saxophone-playing robot WAS-4. We studied the model for air flow control in a wind instrument, and via a series of assessment tests to analyze the robot performance, we discovered that the control of the intraoral pressure of the robot is critical for continuous sound production. We then developed a control system to maintain the intraoral pressure stable during note sustaining and changing, preserving reed vibration and sound production. We assessed the effectiveness of the system via a final evaluation experiment.
