N2 - In the educational institution, the mental support for the students, preparing for the national license examination, is mainly based on study program and personal communication. In contrast, the physical support for the students is very poor, just advising for reclining on bed. Here in this study, we applied hot pack treatment to the students, complaining the stiffness of shoulder and lumber, and examined the effect of hot pack treatment to chronic stress. To figure out these issues, we measured the level of plasma serum cortisol and skin blood stream as a biomarker for chronic stress before and after the treatment with hot pack of 25 senior college students. The students had spent stressful days for 11 months starting from April, preparing for the national license examination, and had complaints of stiffness of shoulder and/or lumber. We found that hot pack treatment of the students significantly reduced the level of serum cortisol and increased the level of skin blood stream after the treatment. These results were statistically significant at p < 0.01 by a non parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test.-These results indicated that hot pack treatment is effective to the reduction of chronic stress. Further detailed studies are obviously warranted, however we would like to figure out the effective methods to reduce the chronic stress for the students, studying for the long terms, and complaining the stillness of shoulder and/or lumber.
