N2 - The large eddy simulation (LES) method is applied to turbulent natural convection in a horizontal concentric annulus. Numerical results are obtained for Rayleigh numbers based on the gap width from 2.51 ×106 to 1.18 ×109. These results are compared with other researchers' experimental data and the validity of LES is investigated. It is found that LES is very useful even if at high Ra, at which the DNS is not applicable. However, in the cases where temperature differences between cylinders are large, effect of dependency of physical properties on temperature is not negligible, which causes the poor coincidence betwenn the experiments and the numerical results.
